Getting Christmas Crafty with Craftenhagen

In case you missed a previous post about the adult crafting group, Craftenhagen, that I run, I thought I’d post an updated one

. I took the organising of the monthly crafting meet up from Valentina Fussell, who hosted it in her home, after she and her family returned to the US a couple of years ago. I love the group as it means that we can try different crafts without having to make the commitment to buying a lot of materials if the craft isn’t for you. It really doesn’t matter if you have done the craft before or even if you are particularly good at it, it’s just fun to try something new and spend an evening chatting with people whilst being creative.55044926-4A6B-4A57-9BDA-E88882AFEABC

We meet monthly in a community room in Nordhavn and examples of crafts we have tried over the last twelve months include Lino printing, shaker cards , fancy pom poms, decoupage Easter eggs and sugar paste flowers to name just a few.

The group is not run for profit and the price covers all the materials (sometimes equipment you get to take home so you can do more) and some light snacks and non alcoholic drinks.

We have a Facebook page where you can join the next event and there are two more dates booked to take us up to the end of the year. We have two Christmas based projects for the next two meeting.

Often the craft is suggested and then demonstrated by one of the members and sometimes we have an expert crafter come in and show us their passion. We’d love to see some more people come along so if it sounds interesting pop over to the Facebook page to find out more. One thing I ask is please only sign up (and leave yourself signed up if your plans change) if you seriously intend on coming along.

The next two events are November 15th (details here) when we’ll be making decoration such as the ones above and then another Christmas related project on December 13th

New Playground in Nordhavn

Whilst Nordhavn is still partly a building site there are a number of sections that have been finished and are now lived in. A wander around the area is a little confusing as there are sections still under construction right next to homes. I missed being able to walk along the water front but that is only temporary whilst the rest of the building work is completed.IMG_5845It was great to see some pockets of the historic dock area left and I hope they will be preserved and also sad to see that the old silo with giant graffiti on has vanished.

IMG_5812IMG_5832But what I wanted to share with you is the new playground located at the top of a parking house close to Portland Towers (the double cylinder building). With space increasingly becoming a scarce things for open space and recreation areas in newly build neighbourhoods it is fantastic to see rooftops being utiltised so well.

There are amazing views from here across the sea and also towards the city. Great play equipment for kids and for people wanting to do circuit training. You can time yourself running up the stairs from ground level to the top if you are keen, using the black buttons at the bottom and top with your time displayed on a large LED screen!IMG_5818 IMG_5819 IMG_5826 IMG_5824

The sloped building in the middle of the photo above will be the new alpine ski slope on top of a new power station designed by BIG Architects.IMG_5825For those with buggies and prams there is a lift on the opposite side of the building to the stairs.

Chasing the Sunset

I love to get on my bike and chase the sunset, taking photos as the summer sun sets late into the evening. These chases are normally spontaneous and I return exhilarated and pleasantly tired. Last weekend I had to collect my bike from Frederiksberg on Saturday evening and I decided to enjoy the balmy evening and take the scenic route back home in Østerbro. I started my sunset chase at the Lakes in Nørrebro with the sun reflecting on the windows of the majestic buildings, then to Nordhavn and its gritty building sites and ended it at sundown in a beautiful location close to my new home, Svanemøllen Gasworks.

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.
