Exploring the city – Nyboder

I had usually spotted the yellowy orange row houses of Nyboder from the bus and they have long fascinated me. I finally did a little bit of research and I was surprised to find out how old they are. They were originally built by Christian IV to house personal of the expanding Danish Navy from 1757. They are still primarily inhabited by forces personnel and have a great feel to the area. It is a unique place and I enjoyed wandering around its cobbled streets, admiring the vibrant colour of the walls, known as Nyboder yellow.
There is a small museum, Nyboder Mindestuer, housed in one of the older buildings which is open on Sundays. I will certainly come back on Sunday as I would love to see inside the houses and I didn’t feel peering in windows was quite right!
