Books I read over the summer

I have kind of let the books I have read posts slide a bit so I thought I would share the books I read over the summer. Some were great, some a little disappointing and one a comforting re-read.

books 1

First is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I am still part way through this but I am really enjoying it so far. I proofread a MA thesis this summer which used this book as one of its primary sources and  I knew I had to read it. Second was a re-read of Bringing up bebe. I admit when I started to re-read it I thought it was a different book but I love reading about how the French approach life. Third was the disappointing read of the summer, Skeletons by Jane Fallon. Her other books were great but one was very predictable, however an entertaining easy read, even if you know the end about half way through.books 2The fourth book was The Uninvited Guests by Sadie Jones. I spotted this book in Books and Company in Hellerup and it was a book I would have been unlikely to have found by myself. I read this almost straight through and it is probably one of the weirdest books I have ever read (and enjoyed). Spare Brides by Adele Parks is something of a departure from her usual novels but so addictive that you will need to devote about twenty four hours to read it in one go. Finally One Lipstick and  a Lover is another entertaining read about French life.

One a final note if you have a child please buy them this magical book, thanks to Travelling Mama for giving us a copy.

I hope you enjoyed this selection and please don’t blame me if you neglect normal life whilst reading some of these books!
