For many years I have looked at the wonderful Bird Island (or Heron Island as we call it) in Frederiksberg Have with fascination, especially when the herons chicks are poking their shaggy heads out of nests like little baby pterodactyls. On a Sunday (and maybe on a Saturday) it is possible to get on a boat tethered by cables and visit the island. The park guards take hourly shifts to pull the boat across to the island, usually with families on board to have a wander around the tiny island.
My son asked to do this this weekend as part of a bit of an autumn forage and we had a lovely wander around. It felt like another secret place….
